Boston College On-Campus Print Center Becomes Full-Solution Provider
Center lowers costs, improves efficiencies
Boston College wanted to achieve three goals with regard to its on-campus digital print center: Improve quality; Expand service offerings to serve more campus constituents; and reduce costs.
Upon assuming management of the campus print center, Collegiate Press installed new multi-function black and white and color production print systems and then created a fully digitized workflow. It also adding student stuff – keeping valuable jobs on campus but reducing the university’s overhead. The company also developed a customized web-to-print portal that allowed faculty and staff to order online while ensuring they stay within branding guidelines.
“The professional staff of the copy center has proven to be a significant asset to our student population,” says Linda Riley, Executive Director of Auxiliary Operations. “Student organizations have grown to rely on Eagle Print (as the center is known) to create and print their many banners and other collateral materials, and usually at the last minute. Since Collegiate Press assumed management, the students of BC have increasingly been more reliant on Eagle Print to meet their print and promotional needs.”
By assuming management of the print center, Collegiate Press removed the direct business risk the University previously faced when it provided the staff, equipment and inventory to operate the center. Collegiate Press control costs through efficiency and by agreeing to hold its contract negotiated pricing.
“Collegiate Press has elevated the print center’s on-campus presence from being perceived as a quick copy center, to now being seen as a full solution print provider,” says Riley. “The new production systems and automation used for ordering have been key to improving quality. The senior management of Collegiate Press is very engaged with the management of our account – and are committed to being successful at BC. They make my role as a manager who wears several hats, much easier.
“Most important, Collegiate Press is student-centered management company – what a pleasant surprise!”
